Peter Dudar - Different as Night and Day

view an excerpt from different as night and day

DIFFERENT AS NIGHT AND DAY was shot in Toronto Canada’s Port Lands. DIFFERENT AS NIGHT AND DAY has a complicated aesthetic. It cycles through views of two adjacent power plants: the majestic Richard L. Hearn Generating Station (decommissioned) and the shed-like Portlands Energy Centre. The weather changes dramatically—but the film transitions from daytime to night as if occurring in a single day. The views are bridged by long dissolves of smoke streaming from the stacks of the Portlands Energy Centre. These dissolves are often gorgeous and reminiscent of the Northern Lights. Like the pollution-enhanced landscapes of JMW Turner and his 19th century contemporaries, DIFFERENT AS NIGHT AND DAY is a painting.
